미국 수학경시 대회(American Math Competition, AMC)는 가장 어렵고 권위 있는 수학 올림피아드 중 하나이다. 이 대회에서좋은 점수를 얻는다는 것은 고등학교나 대학에 더 나은 지원을 할 수 있다는 것을 의미할 수 있으며 AIME를 포함한 더 어려운 대회에 참가할 수 있는 기회를 의미할 수 있다. 다른 경쟁 대회와 마찬가지로 AMC는 저작권 및 유출에 대해 엄격한 정책을 가지고 있다. 모든 참가자는 테스트 전과 도중에 어떠한 종류의 규칙 위반도 엄격히 금지된다는 사실을 안다. 일부 행위에는 신분 위조, 다른 사람 대신 시험 치르기, 다른 이유로 문제 사용하기, 가장 중요한 문제 유출 등이 포함될 수 있다.

AMC는 수많은 응시자와 경쟁을 벌이는 성격으로 인해 며칠 안에 진행되며, 특히 현장 시험은 더욱 그렇다. 이에 대한 몇 가지 이유는 국가 간 시간 차이, 시험지 배포의 시간 등등이다. 그러나 이러한 이유로 인해 참가자가 질문을 기억하고 다른 참가자에게 제공하는 것은 매우 쉽다.

매년 대회에서는 시험 문제가 많이 유출되고 있으며, 실제로 시험이 시작되기 전이나 시험이 진행되는 동안에도 제공되는 웹사이트에서 시험을 볼 수 있다. 가장 최근의 AMC는 지난주 AMC 8(8학년 이하 대상)로 1월 18일부터 1월 24일까지 진행되었다. 예상대로 시험 날짜의 큰 차이로 인해 시험이 유출되어 시험이 시작되기 전에 모든 사람에게 문제를 알렸다. 

AMC는 지난 가을 AMC 10에서도 유출되면서 테스트 유출로 극도로 악명이 높다. 이처럼 어렵고 권위 있는 대회가 이러한 기본적인 문제를 다루는 것은 용납될 수 없다. 시험을 준비하기 위해 수고와 땀, 눈물을 뭉개는 것은 다시는 반복되어서는 안되는 어리석은 실수이다. 위험이 큰 많은 대회와 시험에서는 모든 테스트를 동시에 치르고, 각 응시자에게 동일한 난이도로 다양한 테스트를 제공하고, 해커를 막기 위해 소프트웨어를 강화하는 등의 솔루션을 통해 유출을 방지하기 위한 정책을 강화해야 한다. 이러한 간단한 해결책은 가장 가치 있는 진정한 열심히 일하는 사람들에게 도움이 될 것이며, 다른 사람들이 그것을 빼앗는 것을 방지할 것이다.

The Repetitive Leakage of the American Mathematics Competition; Is There No Solution?

American Mathematics Competition or AMC, is one of the most difficult and prestigious math olympiads. Having a good score in this competition can mean a better application in high school or college, and the chance to participate in more difficult competitions including AIME. Like any other competitive competitions, AMC has a strict policy on copyright and leakage. Every contestant is informed before and during the test that any sort of breakage of the rules is strictly prohibited. Some actions may include faking one’s identity, taking the test for someone else, using the questions for other reasons, and most importantly leaking the questions.

The AMC, due to its competitive nature with numerous test takers, occurs in a course of a few days, especially the onsite tests. Some reasons for this are time differences between countries, distributions of test sheets, and many more. However, due to this reason, it is very easy for a participant to remember the questions and provide it to another participant.

Every year, the competition has numerous leakage of test questions, with tests being available in websites even before the test actually began, or when the tests are happening. The most recent AMC was last week, being AMC 8 (for eighth graders and younger), spanning through January 18 to January 24. Due to these high differences in test dates, like expected, the test leaked, informing the questions to everyone before some of the applicants took the test.

AMC became extremely notorious for test leakage, being leaked in the AMC 10 last fall as well. It is unacceptable for such a difficult and prestigious competition to be handling these basic issues. Crushing one’s hard work, sweat, and tears for preparing for this exam is such a idiotic mistake that should not be repeated ever again. Many competitions and exams with high stakes should enhance their policies to prevent leakage, with solutions like taking all the tests at the same time, having a variation of test with same difficulty to each taker, and enhancing their software to stop hackers. These simple solutions will benefit the true hard workers that are most deserving, and prevent others that would take that away from them.
